The diffusion of fake news, misinformation and disinformation represents an existential threat to our survival.  Managing it requires an understanding of it, and an integration of multiple disciplines and approaches, including big data analytics. This presentation will introduce the nature and scope of the problem, and suggest directions for future response.

Bio

Brian H. Spitzberg, Senate Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the School of Communication at San Diego State University, is an author or coauthor of over 175 scholarly publications on communication competence, media and the dark side of communication, including meme diffusion, assessment, interpersonal communication competence, jealousy, conflict, threats, coercion, violence and stalking.
