DESCRIPTION:
One of the hallmarks of the aging experience is change. The Aging Issues Committee (AIC) invites you to join us for a series of six Zoom luncheon presentations/discussions on the subject of Later Life Transitions. Each session will be led by one or two members of the Committee and will vary in format. Sessions will be scheduled on Fridays at noon and will be at least one month apart. Topics include:
1.) Retirement
2.) Loss of Physical Capabilities (Including Driving)
3.) Becoming Caregiver to a Family Member
4.) Moving to a Senior Facility
5.) Loss of a Spouse/Partner
6.) The Final Transition
In this first session of the series, Dr. DiCicco will work with the group to create a model for understanding retirement. The group will explore challenges before and after retirement. Internal and external barriers to the retirement process will be discussed. Following the exercise, Dr. DiCicco will write a short paper that incorporates and summarizes the group discussion. The paper will be sent by e-mail to all participants in the seminar and will be published in the AIC newsletter for older adults, Age in Action.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) - This luncheon series qualifies for CPD Learning Category #2 - Academic Self-Directed Learning for California licensed psychologists. It also meets criteria for Cultural Diversity and/or Social Justice requirements.
