The purpose of the Forensic Committee is to promote high standards for the delivery of forensic services in San Diego County and throughout the state of California.  The Committee offers educational workshops and consultations to member psychologists who are interested in this challenging and highly specialized field.  Promotion of the profession of psychology in multiple forensic arenas is also addressed by this Committee.  The purpose of the Committee is to promote the appropriate and beneficial involvement of psychologists interested in becoming involved in legal issues.  This Committee meets monthly and is involved in sponsoring continuing education events covering different topics within forensic psychology and forensic neuropsychology.  The ethical practice in the areas of forensic psychology and neuropsychology involves an awareness of the Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychology and knowledge of the applicable sections of the American Psychological Association's Ethical Guidelines.  Witnesses and consultants are often public figures from which attitudes toward mental health evolve and originate.  Thus, it is important for experts to properly represent their credentials and establish acceptable foundations for their opinions.  An expert who performs his/her job poorly tarnishes the whole field of psychology and restricts the benefit that a proper opinion can provide the trier of fact.
