Webinar is free if you are not gaining CEUs Title: " Psychedelics and Surf Therapy: Two Novel treatement Approaches for Chronic pain” .There is a growing body of evidence linking complex developmental trauma to chronic illness, including chronic pain, as well as co-occurring symptoms of anxiety and depression. This webinar proposes the utilization of surf therapy and ketamine therapy as two novel approaches for individuals suffering from chronic pain. 1 in 3 americans suffer from chronic pain, 1 in 5 are experiencing severe-life-impacting pain that renders them unable to function in many aspects of their life. 8.8 percent of suicides are due to chronic pain. Tracey Chester, LMFT, Founder of Pain Trauma Institute in San Diego. will share her knowledge of some of the chronic health problems many of your complex developmental trauma your clients suffer from;, many from one or more of the 80+ Autoimmune Diseases. Tracey is also a chronic pain patient, and has her own personal experience to help patients navigate the medical system. On average her patients arrive for therapy after 5-10 years of finding a diagnosis. Her mission at her clinic is to shorten these times and educate patients about how to interact successfully within the medical system. She will address the types of conditions linked to developmental trauma through central sensitization, such as fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, Ehlers-Danlos Symptoms, and POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome as a few examples. Typically the long path of suffering before diagnosis and even after contain difficult and traumatic encounters with doctors and specialists. This leads to a subtype of PTSD, Medical Trauma. Medical Trauma will be defined and examples shown through interviews with patients like these. The hope is that this in turn, will promote awareness so that therapists are better equipped to understand clients that are going through and feel more comfortable treating them. There are many novel approaches to treating trauma now: We will discuss two: surf therapy and ketamine therapy. Surf Therapy Surf therapy involves engaging individuals in structured surfing activities under the guidance of trained professionals, with the aim of promoting physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. The dynamic nature of surfing, combined with exposure to the natural environment, fosters a unique therapeutic experience that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of chronic pain and trauma. Natalie Small, LMFT is the founder of the Groundswell Community Project, a non-profit organization for women with trauma. Natalie has developed the only Standard of Care Curriculum that is CAMFT-Approved.Surf-therapy Sessions are around 70% on land and 30% in the water. 100% of the session is an invitation to notice what is presently alive in your body, your heart, and your head and to experience it, embody it, and play with it in the safe held space. Our initial findings suggest that surf therapy can provide a range of benefits for individuals with chronic pain and complex developmental trauma. The physical activity involved in surfing can help alleviate pain symptoms by promoting physical fitness, improving circulation, and releasing endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers. Moreover, the sensory experience of being in the ocean and riding waves can induce a state of relaxation and mindfulness, reducing stress and anxiety levels. Initial findings from Project Stoke, a collaborative project with USC, showed a 50% decrease in pain before and after going into the water, which was replicated by neural measurements, recorded at the beach. Psychedelic Therapy (Ketamine) Lisa McJunkin, LMFT is the Chief Operations Officer, Clinical Supervisor and Lead Clinical Director of DayDream MD Integrated Health and Wellness Center. She will speak about the wellness approaches utilized by Daydream, which offers integrative healing practices for sustained relief from depression, anxiety, chronic pain, addiction, complicated grief and unresolved trauma. She will present system regulation techniques that include psychedelic assisted therapy, and experiential exercises that she employs. |
